Boardman bikes are about the best VFM you can get, top quality gear at silly low prices. Apparently some Halford stores have poor customer services and this seems to be limited from the stores I've visited and not the norm as so many on here seem to make out, but there again I know how to build and service my bikes rather than run and ask for help at the first sign of something needing doing like adjust saddle or swap a chain, so maybe its not the Halfords staff that are the issue but the majority of numpties on here.

A little strong?? well its good enough for you to slam stores so its good enough to slam you!! Don't like it then block me or ignore me, I don't care which.

but there again I know how to build and service my bikes - so do I, but whats wrong with expecting a retailer to supply a bike in a safe, roadworthy condition and their staff to be able to answer customers queries regarding the products they sell?

Here for rides.
caveat emptor.

why put a slice of your wealth, and certainly your health in the hands of some spotty kid in an LBS or chainstore. Get you bike delivered in a box and build it up yourself, set it up for yourself, maintain it for yourself and only use the LBS when buying the tools costs more than the cost they charge for the job. After all when you are miles from home and it breaks you are going to have to fix it aren't you.

Dreadful service from a locally recommended and renowned LBS in Brighton drove me down this route in the late 90's and I've not really looked back.

And when you buy a bike from your LBS, Wiggle etc you don't go through it and double check it?? Also as I've said every Halfords, BikeHut, Cycle Republic or whatever they want to call their bike departments I've never once had any problem with service or work, and I've been in several over the UK not just my local ones.

Lets face it they are meeting a market need, they probably sell more bikes than the LBS's which means they are getting bums on saddles at their target market/price range, so rather than slamming them why don't we accept them for what they are doing, if someone has a bad experience fair dues and they should say something, however if someone had a good experience I bet they won't come on here and say for fear of being laughed out of the house.

Boardman bikes are more than a match for almost any other bike in its price range, as proven in many test reports in cycle mags over the last year, so stop thinking about who sells them and look at the product, I'll buy one as they are great bikes, regardless of the name or seller!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Was in Halfords again today and decided to ask the guy about the Boardman lineup.
"You'd be better off with something like this...."

I looked where he was pointing and there amongst a crappy line up of bikes was an equally pathetic looking Raleigh hybrid thing.

"We sell loads of those....."

I walked out of the shop.

Perhaps he thought you were not gonna splash the cash, or maybe you asked him wearing a jesters hat!

Would have been funny though if you did say absolutely nothing, shook your head and walked out. ;)

Anyway QC, stop pondering over that damn boardman and just buy it!! :becool:

I am sure the Boardman bikes are fine and dandy, but they are going to get reasonable reviews due to the advertising spend.

I guess they're not taught sales techniques either then

Get the Boardman, check it over yourself (before you ride it), job done !

from the Edinburgh Nocturne. They didn't win because David Millar was the clear winner...
