Since cycling i have lost nearly 2.5 stone and i was feeling pretty good with my self (i know i need to loose more)

I went to check my BMI to see what i need to get down to, to be my ideal weight.

I am 6' 2" tall roughly and now weight about 17 stone, it says i need to be 13-14 stone.

Even when i was training six times a week playing rugby i only managed 15 and a half stone!

BMI was never meant to be used as a measurement for indviduals rather for examining groups on the national level.
It's been misused because it's quick, easy and cheap to do and doesn't need trained staff or expensive equipment such as the " fat calipers" that were used up to about 30 years ago. On an indivdual basis it is almost meaningless as by the time you exclude , young men, athletes, pregnant women, those with water carrying ailments ,children, the very short, the very tall, those on certain medications etc etc... it becomes almost meaningless.

Had my full medical a couple of weeks ago. I'm also at the top end of 'overweight' to according to the BMI scale, but my resting heart rate is 42 bpm, and I have a lung age of 32. I'm 53. The doctor told me no need to worry about anything and BMI is just one indicator that shouldn't be viewed in isolation from everything else.

+1 for BMI being a crock of $hite

+2 on that, on the heart rate, mine was in the low 50's some years ago, these days its around high 50's low 60's, with medication, stents and age I recon that's pretty good.

Imagine what many pro RL players would score, despite being fit as a fiddle.
I remember Andy Goodway many years ago running a Marathon sub 3 hours yet being around 17 stone,

I understand waist size is possibly the most important measurement,

I've still got 2 stone to loose till I'm not BMI overweight, 2 gone already.

When I was 6 foot and 11 stone the BMI calculators told me I was clinically obese. BMI is the biggest pseudo medical joke of the times.

Sorry Dave but thats not right.

At 5ft 10 the top end of my healthy weight range is 12 stone 3 lbs according to the NHS guide to BMI.

I have used the NHS health tools site and found it worked out about right for me .I am about 7 lbs above now ,and iot shows.

I put in 6 ft for someone approx your age and it gives 13 stone as top of your ideal weight range.

I know it doesnt work for everyone. For example muscular athletes weigh in as overweight but it does work for me.

I think the site telling you 11 stone was flawed.
