Blowout (do I need a new tyre?)

fatty who installed 700x23 after usually riding 700x25

As you can guess I just had a blowout after doing about a total of 120 on the new tyres

The pressure was a tad higher before I went out and there was the odd bump

1) as a fatty should I have stuck with 25's?

2) noticed the beading looked

I'm so fat that pies have been known to go into orbit around my waist, and I manage fine in 23s. I run them at about 100/110 front/rear.

Yes thats annoying, its happened to me twice, once with a large piece of debris I didn't see in the rain and darkness, and once due to tyre failure, the tyre went bang, woke up the farm dogs 200 yards away and frightened everybody half to death..

Its why I went off conti's; every 23mm conti I've had in recent times has failed at the side wall when the tread was still good. At worst I think I had one fail on its 2nd outing. The one set 25mm escaped that bad record for some reason.

If it's really only 120 miles, I'd be contacting the retailer bought them from, asking about a refund. The photos you have here will help them decide.

(I once separated a Marathon Plus from it's wire, using nothing but my thumbs. As I was sitting 4 metres from the shop that sold it to me, I got my money back. God, I hate M+ tyres)

Id have a word with the shop too as @jefmcg suggests..
I run my 23's at 100..110 but i do find them a bit teeth rattling ..
i was told if you run them soft as in 70..90 your more likely to flat with a snake bite or stab? Which makes sense really i spose..snake bites anyway

I had a Michelin Pro 4 do that to me, cost me 8 weeks off the bike and a buggered shoulder. Nothing to do with your weight looks like a duff bead join to me.

If I had to use those pressures or give up cycling then the bikes would have to go!

I weigh 180+ lbs at the moment and am always 165+ lbs. I ride at the pressures suggested on that chart for riders weighing 110-130 lbs.
