Flippin' cat!!!!

Been nearly two weeks since his obsession with water led to him knocking over a vase of water and ruining the laptop (water got in the bottom of it)..... and I'm still annoyed with him. Grrrrr. Laptop currently with insurers being fixed.

I'd let the insurers pay out but I would rather have some qualified IT chaps fix it

Ha ha! It is the insurer's IT chaps who fix it - and allegedly transfer all the data to a new computer if they can't fix it......

Tell us more. Were you a nasty wasty parent?

Yes afraid so,

I help out a few mornings a week ( because essentially I want to see what my sons learning and how, so I can help him at home)
On Monday morning, the teech talked at them for a full hour about their newly introduced 'learning targets' ( they are 5 years old !) and within minutes I was losing the will to live, as were the kids.

Anyway, went in yesterday and at break time had a (what I thought was ) informal friendly chat with her during which I asked what the 'learning targets' were all about, and I said that it appeared to me that the kids were not understanding what it was all about.

I questioned my son about it on Monday night and he had not got a clue what the teech had been on about !

So today, I got asked to 'discuss' this with the teacher, with the assistant head in attendance !

of course waterworks were turned on and justification for the targets was levelled . . . . . . . I know they're jumping through hoops as we all have to do.

But I was so annoyed and disappointed that an informal chat degenerated into this situation, surely teachers are expected to evaluate their teaching methods and should be open to constructive questioning/criticism ?

The head did offer these pearls of wisdom at one point ' well ms ***** is only 23 years old you know, she's a young teacher'

Fine, but she's got the degree, passed the exams, and is earning the full wage, in my book that makes her accountable !

B***y hell fire !

AAAAARRRGGGHHHH !

you've got me worked up again !!

Well if the said teacher had 'listened' herself at teacher training she would have known that children only have an attention span of 10 mins! You've got to keep early learning fun and entertaining so as not to loose continuity. She may be a NQT and bringing this to the head may have done her a favour for extra guidance, her lesson plan may be looked at, I'm sure she's learned something here herself. I say, good for you! too many teachers are only in it for the salary. I truely believe that teaching is a vocation thats why I got out. imo I also think offstead doesn't work as the red carpet gets rolled out . Everyone's on their 'best behavour'. Teaching is a bl***y hard job and I also believe good teachers deserve the salary's they get and more.

Because I've decorated all your houses (for free) and done any repairs you've required (for free) does not give you the right to quote to your friends and friends of their friends a price for any type of job that they require at 1/4 the price a normal handyman would quote them!

I'm trying to make a living here and it's hard enough being self employed getting work, that hasn't been undercut in price to begin with, due to the current economic climate.

So let me

"Quote the price depending on the amount of work involved"

I feel better now
