I've got a couple of muddy fox jerseys ones an MFX logo'd one and they're absolutely fine for pootling around in, bit baggy but really aimed at mtb riders IMO.
If you're on a budget you can't argue with the price! They were good enough for me to be doing up to 60 mile rides no problem (including the muddy fox padded shorts).
You really DONT need all the top branded kit to ride a bike but obviously if you want to spend the money top kit does help.

well Muddy Fox bikes used to be fairly good 15-20 years ago. However, the company selling the shoddy kit these days simply uses the old brand name but is not the same gang. Bit like Karrimor too.

Not quite, if you look at any of the kit you will notice it is styled Muddyfox, NOT Muddy Fox.

The latter was the bike manufacturer that brought about a lot of teenager's first experience of mountain biking in the late 80's and 90's. The former is the in house brand of SD, and it is cheap, but functional. I have a few pairs of their shorts (and jerseys) which are perfectly fine for commuting (I don't like using my Santini kit for the dash to work, keeping it for longer rides). My experience is that the pad int he shorts, though a simple foam one, doesn't have the a***-ripping stitching that the Crane(Aldi) ones do.
