It broke on the way to work :'(

My old one broke so I replaced it with a KMC chain. Had to remove a couple of links to get it the same length as the old one, think this is where I went wrong possibly as the break is the same link I used to join the chain up after removing the links not needed.

Newbie advice needed for replacing / fixing chains needed.... ;-)

Did you join it the old-fashioned way by pushing the pin back through, or by using a connector ?
Most KMCs are supplied with their "missing link" connector which has proven very reliable for most people. I don't recall reading of any failures, only occasional difficulties removing
The link next to that would be an "inner" link on which failures are almost unheard of. Outer plates sometimes fail, but it is rare.... and anyway you are now looking at things well away from where you split the chain ?

Yes I did it the old fashioned way, it does have what I assume is a connector but it was already connected....

Maybe I should have come here for advice first :-( lol

Did you break the chain at the connector part of the chain? This can shear bits of metal from the inside of the connector and cause a failure.

No, it broke at the point I re joined, possibly from using the same pin i removed? But what other method of joining the link is there? :-/

Links like this. KMC usually include one of these "missing
links" with a new chain. It joins and removes easily and reliably.

You can tell I like them can't you.

Thanks, that's what I've got on my chain (except mines gold )

I couldn't unclip it before so that's why I just removed and rejoined further along

Grrr regret not buying a triban 3 while I had the chance lol
