I think the word he was looking for was 'Martyr' ;)

That's a better word, thank you :0)

No, I don't know any ecologists. Where I live you are doing well if you can persuade the locals not to set fire to the trees!

common causes for drained batteries are
glove box light
boot light
courtesy light switches in the door jambs getting rusty
faulty alarm or immobiliser
discharge through rusty front or rear lights
You'll need to put your battery on a long slow charge like 6-8 hours. A fast charge will get you going but won't do the battery any good.

Ayup Gromit,

I use a solar powered trickle charger on the Capri - just plugs in to the fag lighter - it's enough to keep it topped up all the time but wont recharge if you leave the lghts on or summat.

I used to have a knackered Fiesta that I only used once in a while. I was always forgetting to start it up to charge the battery so got a jumpstarter. Something like this

If you have just paid out on lots of new bits for the car, sods law says something else must fail within a month, by the sounds of it it would be either going to be the alternator or the water pump!
If you are going to take it near a garage have them check the alternator

Don't you just love built in obsolescence:rolleyes:

Hiya everyone, thanks for the advice. tdr1nka it was the water pump last year, fixed that myself when I was on a budget :-), the year before the clutch, got the original reconditioned for £112, plus refitting.

I have now taken the battery out and will charge it every week, will put it back in as an when needed. Not like I'm going to need it soon, off cycling for 15 days in France on Thursday.

If I could just butt in here for a mo...

We went out on Saturday in it, and solved the boot light problem by ripping the boot light out... Proper job!

Better still, get one of those veteran cars with a crank.
