You can pack a hell of a lot of C4 into a bike frame, no need for panniers.

As described in 'The Quiet American' book/film.

Recently I was going to board a plane with some ancestral documents. It flashed through my mind that I might have a problem at security because one of them was an old death certificate..

Even the IRA tried this in the 90's

Panniers and saddle bags are unattended luggage according to a sign I read. I suspect that they'd be an identification problem if there was a bomb alert.

I avoid leaving my bike at the station since it was vandalised (along with others there) a few years ago and I take off anything I can - tyres slashed, saddle slashed and light brackets snapped off. Other bikes had bags or panniers that were on them slashed as well. Probably a couple of s***s with stanley knives. The racks are better placed now but I still don't trust the place.

I dont hear many tales of bikes being messed about with at Hull station, although one member of staff had a rear wheel nicked off his Tesco MTB  serves them right for not using the secure staff cycle storage.
If I was using the public racks at Hull I'd use the ones about half way down platform 2. It's close to the station managers office & usually more staff than passangers around there, so anyone behaving suspiciously would stand out. Not many drivers will tell you that

Only just got back to the computer, all that commuting (13/14 hour days) with dog walking either end too & normal household organization left me pretty tired.

Thanks for that tip next time I need to use the station I will use those I was just using the first set at the top of platform 2.

I'm guessing you work there & a driver too. It wasn't you driving the 17.56 from Doncaster friday was it? the train was 45 minutes late - it was pretty scary riding through Hull city centre while the pubs were open, just glad it wasn't later.

You guess right
Been on early shifts this week, but not done much driving so it wasn't me. You should try cycling through the city centre later than that on Fri & Sat evenings, it's even more fun

Thank you but no, that was plenty scary enough for me.
If you're cycling through alot later than that you deserve a bravery medal (or psychanalysing).

How safe would it be left overnight? I have to work at Grimsby next friday/saturday so stopping over (my brother flies to America for 4 days to watch a band I get to stayover in Grimsby - how unfair is that?)

My brother is a driver for Great Western - I couldn't believe all the training (no pun intended) you have to do & all the theory you need to learn, spread over a year & doing nothing else but learning.

I did feel quite sorry for the driver & ticket collector on the train on friday especially as we only had one engine for most of the way & held everything else up, it was quite an unwelcoming committee when we got off the train.

I wonder if they ask for the cars parked at the station to have their boots removed?
