Bike suggestions please

Hey, I am soon to come into an amount of money, £1000 and would like some suggestions for suitable bikes for my experience/height.

I'm basically a beginner but my legs aren't completely useless as i've done a regular short commute recently. I'd like to become more serious with cycling and need a nice bike to help me. I am rather tall, approx 6'5''.

So far I've been eyeing up the 'Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Tiagra Compact 2012' 63cm frame it's a compact which i believe is good for people with less experience (I think, correct me if i'm wrong) So Basically if anyone knows of a better or more suitable bike for my budget and experience I would love to know thanks. Also i'm willing to go over budget by a bit.

Have a look at the Cube Peleton Race and the Boardman Team Bike as they are more highly specced than the giant for the same/less amount of money respectively.

I'd avoid the Bianchi. Their aluminium bikes are heavier than other makes.

I've filtered down to what my top choices are, and also which have a better specification and are lighter than the Bianchi:

Canyon Roadlite 6.0 has a good specification and is lightweight bike for £200 cheaper with SRAM Apex.

Carrera from Halfords with the new Shimano 105 groupset and which is also carbon, if you want carbon that is. Don't associate the bike with the branches employees.

Fuji Roubaix

Felt Z85

Vitus

Specialized Allez Elite

Kinesis T2 great, light all round road bike. Good as a trainer and for winter too.

Felt F75

Those are my main choices, although somebody may be able to find a better deal. I'd personally go for on of the first two listed.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm going to look into what I've been told to make a decision. Out of interest what brand/model shifters etc should I be looking to get.

I have owned the Bianchi Via Nirone 7 2012 road bike for seven months now and I really cannot fault it. If you do not mind Tiagra components then go for it. I have upgraded mine to Ultegra and changed the stock wheels to Fulcrum Racing 5. You may want o get the Bianchi Impulso 105 for £1,200 if you can afford as it has a better frame/components.

Both the Giant Defy 1 and Cube Peloton Race are good value for money. I hear Boardman comp is quite good too.

Let's know which one you end up buying. It may be worth your while test riding them first. Good luck.

The other thing about Bianchi that you forgot to mention is that they look so nice, but then "so nice" is subjective I suppose. I'm still waiting for my new Bianchi Impulso Veloce.

PS. Just seen the Bianchi Impulso 105 for £1000 at the following link: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bianchi/impulso-105-compact-2012-road-bike-ec031987

I know it's a personal thing, but I would rather pay £1200 for a Bianchi Impluso 105 than £1000 for a Cube Peloton Race. But given that you can currently get the Bianchi Impulso 105 for the same price as the Cube Peloton Race, then that (for me at least) makes the Bianchi the obvious choice between the two. As others have said on this fourm, its easier to upgrade components than a frame. As I said, it's a personal thing and many would probably disagree with me about the Bianchi.
