Not sure whether they'll be arranging bicycle parking at the NEC - if so been thinking whether to take the bike on the train from High Wycombe to Birmingham. Solihull is one of the stops on the Chilterns line and appears to be the nearest to the NEC. Is it easy to get from Solihull station to NEC by bike? Been to the NEC by car many times - however, parking is now £8 ....

Yes, Solihull to the NEC would be a piece of cake. The NEC is actually closer to Solihull than it is to the centre of Birmingham. Have a look on google maps (or other such similar site). Best way is probably out of Solihull on the B4102 to Catherine De Barnes and then up the B4438. The roundabout where it joins the A45 is a bit hairy but once over that you get into the general NEC area and can cycle round Bickenhill lane / parkway to where the exhibition is (assuming it's in the same place as other things I've been to at the NEC).

Traffic will be crappy around there - it generally is cos it feeds the airport as well as the NEC..... just to warn you.

It's a nice flat route.

There are supposed to be some new cycle facilities around the airport and NEC, but I've not been up there recently.

Having looked at the Chiltern railways website I might not even bother, the fare would appear to be about £50 return.
For that +parking I could take the car (ok ok I know it's a bit selfish, pollutes more, etc)....
Checked the fares for tomorrow and for the show day.

Possibly a bit early for the cheapest fares. Wait a while, and look for tickets to Solihull - on same line, so might get some bargains.
