Yes there are well about 200 hundred now - all over the country and NOT just in towns/cities - almost all independents and well qualified. My own is now 11 years old for example and covers a wide area ranging from small town to village to countryside - many are 1 man (or woman) bands so you get good personal attention - most don't sell bikes they just want to fix them so won't tell you your bike is crap just to get a sale!

Your mobile bike mechanic is 11 years old? Isn't that child labour or exploitation or summat?

My lbs loves telling me my bike is crap and trying to make a sale...I try to avoid him unless I get desperate

I passed a van owned by Urge mobile repairs/maintenance this morning. I like to think the two guys in it nodded sagely to each other and said "That's a well maintained bike, he won't be calling us any time soon". However they probably said "Look at all the road s**te on that, does he never clean it?"

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Blimey - they can charge some prices down there!!
Yes indeed! I must have saved a fortune over the years by doing my own maintenance, but then I'm of the 'Meccano generation', and grew up thinking if you needed something practical done you did it yourself. I still sweep my own chimneys, rod my own drains ........ doesn't everyone? ^_^

yep, luckily there's one near me that saves me fixing everyone elses bikes (I do my own).

Even had someone book him last week to "fit new wheels". I have no idea what that entails that requires a mechanic!
