Hi, just been looking at stolen bike section checking out this site, just wondering how would i go about getting my bike chipped and what other methods could people use for easy identification for if someone ever does steal my bike. Thanks

P.s I have grade 10 cable/D-lock and 2 other not so good locks jus to lock my wheels to frame so doubt theifs will get a chance  and parked in a secure cp where i work.

There's a few CCers that have had their bikes taken from 'secure' car parks.

The components on a bike are worth a lot excluding the frame and do not usually have serial numbers.

Add up all the parts other than the frame and see how much they cost.

There are companies that can securitag the frame either electronically or by chemical etching, but they're of little deterrent effect.

Forget cable locks, even the 10/10 ones....I had a 7/10 one and my bike was nicked within 15 minutes on a very busy road on a Sunday afternoon, cable cut straight through

I will only using a £60 Sold Secure Abus Granit D lock from now on

My bike is security marked (was done by the Police at the SkyRide, Bikeregister) - nicked 3 weeks ago, check Gumtree and eBay daily, not a dicky bird

Also, keep proofs of purchase and a note of the frame number. Also, if it is worth anything much, consider insurance

I always try to keep the bike in my sight, taking it indoors with me wherever possible. My D-lock is now about 20 years old, and I'm thinking of upgrading to a New York Fageddaboudit lock and chain.

Not really up to scratch with security (I know I should be!) but two questions, how heavy/big and how do you carry the 'D' locks, also if I register my bikes with one of the Internet sites, do I have to give my address? Surely that gives 'hackers/thieves' all the details they need about where to go for decent bikes?
