I do a lot of road biking and currently increasing my distance. But sometimes I would like to stop and pop in a shop for something to eat. What is a good lock and ideal for road bike. Light weight and easy to store on the bike. Any ideas and links please.

Hiplock? Any decent lock to go on the bike will be heavy. Get an inexpensive cable and don't let the bike out of your sight for more than a couple of minutes. I got one of these for ride London, can just curl around the seatpost

Lots of shops or petrol stations will let you wheel your bike in otherwise

As @vickster says, security is heavy. For the purposes you describe I use a cable lock that should protect against all thieves except those armed with a stout pair of scissors, and I don't let it out of my sight for more than a few ticks.
