Firstly is there a section to review bikelights??
I bought a set recently from halfords the bike hut 7 lux .
Cost about 34 quid and here are my findings so far.
The rear light some how vibrates off its mount, even though the clip seems up to the job.
I read peoples reviews on the halfords website, after buying these to find im not the first person this has happened to.
An elastic band sorted the problem ,apart from that problem the rear light is ok. (but nothing special)
There is only the one led in there but it says it has fibre optic technology, its weird as the rear light beam fans out, and lights up either side of the road behind me.
What its like from a motorists perspective im not sure.
I also have another rearlight on the back of my head gear. (just in case)
The front light is an absolute god send, i live out in the sticks a bit and this thing the darker it is the better it seems to light the way.
The spread of the beam is brill giving plenty of view of the way ahead, there is a fair amount of perifary light some actually light up my reflective jacket.
It has adjustment for both up and down and left and right, my old light was always pointing a little towards the kerb.
The on off switch a bit twitchy but always comes on , goes off etc.
So in all a few things im not happy about but im loathed to take it back, as the front light is exactly what ive always wanted.
I am also going to ad a second front light , even if its a flashing one. (my night vision is terrible)
If my main light fails at least i will have something up front.

What you all using???

I've just bought a Blackburn Mars 4.0 for the rear and checking it out in bright sunshine yesterday - The "retina burning" reviews were not at all exaggerated :becool:

It has constant or flashing options and also has side LEDs in amber.

Still haven't decided what to get for the front yet. I need the front for safety on lit roads, making me visible rather than for actual illumination of the road surface.

Both of my bikes that carry lights are fitted with B&M IQ Cyco running off hub dynamos. http://www.bike24.com/p29651.html.

The Brompton normally has a Bromton rear as standard ,with a Smart 7 LED as back up http://www.bikelights.co.uk/product/26/128556517/Smart-Polaris-7-Led-Rear-Light.html, but in 18 months I've gone through 3 Brompton rears, (they are obviously not man enough for the folding/unolding) so if anyone has any suggestions for a dynamo rear light that will fit the space I would be interested.

The Ridgeback has a Raleigh RSP ( that I can't find a link to ) that I've had a driver complain was "too bright" ( That was a bus diver who didn't understand the concept of an ASL) . There are normally one or two cheapy "flea" lights knocking about in my bag as back up back up , and during the winter I will normally have one of these on the rear of my collar and fron zip.

I also have a Cateye somthing which gets swapped from bike to bike which is set on strobe.

Since fitting an IQ Cyo and it's associated puddle of daylight ahead of my front wheel, I'm no longer looking for a better front light. That's exactly what I've been looking for over thirty years.

I've just bought one of those Smart Lunar light sets off the website above.

The rear light seems to be standard across the range and cost as much as the set, effectively I got a front light for free.

If it's the one I think it is (Ultra Bright on the front?), then the instructions don't explain properly how to clip the back one in. If you look at the back of the light casing under the clip, you should see two ridges next to each other. These mate with a couple of small lugs on the mounting bracket when you clip it in. You have to pull the light housing away from the bracket slightly to get the first ridge over the lugs. Once it is in properly, it should not come out.

Incidentally, I had problems after a while with the front light (Mega Bright, but similar) switching itself off when going over bumps. I eventually worked out that it was the battery contacts (probably oxidation). I solved the problem by wiping the contacts (just the easily accessible ones) with WD40, and they have been great since.
