I have a good lock but would like to find my bike if it is stolen, so many are. Looking for some kind of way to track my bike if stolen. I have been to half a dozen bike shops and no one has anything reasonable. A couple had something for several hundred dollars and a subscription fee. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
thanks so much, a beginner

I've seen replacement stems and so on for £60 that you just put a prepay sim in, on the eBay lottery. I've stuck with alarmed locks as once it's gone, I expect the bike to be stripped fairly quickly and any tracker discovered.

Why do you expect that?

My bikes are fairly distinctive and I'm a pesky campaigner. If they don't strip them or ship them, there's a fair chance someone in the local clubs or shops will spot it and tell me.

I would have thought insurance would be cheaper and easier? I know it wouldn't get the bike back, but at least you wouldn't be out of pocket

I get it, but i want my bike back. I understand that over 90% of bike are not really stolen, they are ridden, hahaha. That means that they are taken by a transient or drug user for a one way trip. I know still stolen, but not to be stripped like a car would be. The problem is that i could drive around for days and not find my bike, it could be any where, on any street just left. So i was thinking that if i can follow it, i can pick it up or at least tell the police that i see it and someone is with it. So no confrontation. Just curious. Insurance is great, but if i can find something for less the $50.00, I think it would be worth it.

I doubt you will, if you want a tracking device. Cheap to hide ID in the frame etc, or just get the bike UV marked. And make sure you have the serial number documented and some photos of the bike (plus proof of ownership)

Consider one made for tracking a cat or a dog.
