Just got back from my bike fit with Adrian Timmis at Cadence sport. Thought I'd post my initial thoughts before I ride in my new position.
Firstly its a great shop with lots of memorabilia to browse at whilst waiting ( I arrived early ) Adrian is a thorughly nice bloke with lots of patience, more importantly he comes across as very very knowledgeable about all things cycling.
2.5 hours later I came away with new handlebars, a shorter stem, and almost everything except saddle height adjusted. This may sound strange and leave you wondering how I ever rode my bike in the first place !!
Some of these adjustments where very very small with Adrian taking the time to show me the difference afew millimetres can make to your riding position.
The main reason for my fit was a tendancy to suffer lower back pain about 1-1.5 hours into a ride. The weekend will tell whether or not its made any difference but I left feeling a lot more comfortable on my bike during the turbo session.
And after viewing the video Adrian took of my riding position before and after the fit I feel confident of at least some improvement.
I'll post an after ride report over the weekend, but fingers crossed its money well spent.

Hope it worked well and you see the benefits...have often wondered whether it would be worth it but the finances are tight at the moment! Will be v interested to see the results...good luck :-)

really interesting report geo! I too suffer from lower back pain but I put this down to my age mostly and the fact that I've suffered with back injury for about 20 years  I'm really looking forward to seeing how your ride goes and f the fit has really improved your feel on the bike?

Cheers for taking the time to write it up mate,

Matt.

A lovely village indeed  but probably need far more than the cost of one of Adrians Pinarellos to even think about living there

I suspect it will be. But do keep in mind that it might might not feel right at first. Sometimes a new fit will feel odd to begin with, and you might be tempted to tinker, but give it a little time. It doesn't always feel right straight out of the box, particularly not if you've been riding in the old position for some time. Give it at least a couple of rides/hours.

I had a fit about a month ago. Only now am I feeling the benefit.

Takes time for the body to get used to it.

A month! Blimey, I wouldn't have expected it to take quite that long! Different strokes for different folks obviously. It's worth keeping that in mind geo.

A bike shop that does bike fit and suggests purchasing some new parts.

Conflicted - nah:whistle:

Your as cynical as me 400  and that certainly crossed my mind, however I went thinking it was going to cost me some cash and the attitude that if I was paying for the fit I may aswell take the advice. In for a penny in for a pound if you know what I mean !!

Yeah, it's not something that can be measured black and white. It's a feel thing. I think most of us enthusiasts will have the bike broadly set up correct anyway, so differences are marginal.

I feel less tired and easier to stay on tempo as it were. Some of that is an increase in my threshold fitness and some of it not.

I had mine with Adrian over a year ago, after 40 years of riding, racing, club membership and club advice I must admit I was a bit sceptical about what he could do to improve my position. However improve it he did, stretched me out a bit with a longer stem, put the hoods up a bit and quite a few other tweeks, amazing difference like going from a armchair to a really nice fluffy bed.

Yes I did buy a couple of bit, compact bars and a longer stem, but there again it would have been hard to make the adjustments without doing so. I also went for the moulded insoles as I used to have foot pain when cycling, these have proved a major help in reducing that pain.

I felt comfortable from day one, however I also felt different which lasted a few weeks.
