Hi all, just moved (temporarily) into my gf's flat while we are looking for a house - need somewhere to store 3 or 4 bikes and balcony looks best bet! All the bikes are under a year old and v nice so don't want the weather ruining them. Can anyone recommend a way of looking after them out there? Covers maybe?

I think you'll be surprised by how resilient modern bikes are - I've had a bike in the garden for a couple of years and it's not really suffered. Having said that - if security isn't a problem, what's wrong with a tarpaulin?

I recently bought a bike cover from Sainsbury's for about £6, not so much for protection but to discourage anyone fiddling with the bike when it's locked up outside work. Its shaped to fit and rolls up fairly small to go in the pannier when I go home.

If you get a cover for it, even if it says breathable, I would recommend buying some plain cotton bed sheets.

Drape the sheets over the bikes first then put your plastic cover over it, this prevents them sweating too much, as the term goes.

If they are nice bikes, like yourself I would want to fend off the elements as much as possible.

Mine live in our flat, as we live near the sea, and salt air plays havoc!! Plus I know they are safe, as they are nice bikes.

If the balcony is big enough: http://www.tradingplaces.me.uk/product250453_905936.aspx
You can secure this to the wall, but of course I don't know how big your balcony is.
