marinyork, calm down please. I was actually agreeing with everything that you said, and was just offering some more information to people who want to make a choice of bike lights. That really is all.

FFS, bike lights don't need to be posted in P&L, do they?

Peace, dude .:hello:

Put a hub dynamo on my latest project. Magic! Like a searchlight it is. And no noticeable drag. Not cheap.

Fair enough. I agree about the side visibility. A very good property one forgets to mention. I can frequently see it reflected off shop windows and cars cycling past. I really can't think of another light that has that level of side visibility off the top of my head. Good lights, I still think they are pricey but I've got an insane amount of use out of mine.

Whatever floats your boat! BTW, I believe that you are doing the next FNRttC to Whitstable. I can't make it because it is half-term. The offer of a pint will remain "virtual" for now. Have a great ride.

Update - thanks to all for their thoughts. I went with the Cateye 1100 from my LBS this weekend (the new 80% brighter version) and have fitted it snugly under my seat so that the seat bracket itself helps stop the light coming loose.

It's really bright and very visible from side on too as the shop windows in town evidenced in the darkness today - exactly what I wanted. So I now have this on flashing, another frame mounted Cateye on steady and a third clipon steady light fastened to my HUMP cover on my rucksack courtesy of a little sewn-on loop about 2/3 the way down - also in reflective tape - that Mrs B fashioned for me.

Why the manufacturers of the HUMP cover didn't think of adding points for clipon lights I don't know - they have a little mesh pocket with a velcro fastening near the base of the cover, but it's no use for holding a light - I tried it several ways. One of the things I liked about my Altura pannier was the provision of places to fix lights on the waterproof cover.

Maybe an email to the HUMP people is in order?
