Gemma my step daughter and I went for a nice cycle ride up to westcote and back on Sunday shame we never got home though.
we got to Westcote did a lap around the church as usual on the way out of nether westcote the road is about a mile long and dead straight we see a oldish lady about half way down the road walking in the same direction as us on the left side of the road we are at about 24mph as its slightly down we are normally doing 28 or 30 but this is a steady day as we get near we slow down to just under 20 and pull out to the middle of the road, The ped must have heard us and stepped out 2 paces into the road then looked saw us and ran straight accross the road into the side of Gems front wheel Gems shoulder hit the lady and Gems went over the bars onto the road. I managed to stop before hitting either of them lobbed my bike on the grass verge and ran to Gems who was try to turn over to get up so I knelt down behind her and stopped her moving and cuddled her there was blood everywhere a big puddle on the road where her head was and by now I too was covered, I phoned for a ambulance, The old lady was stood about 3 feet away and in shock she seemed ok as she never got knocked over but I bet she has some good/bad bruising down her right hand side. A guy Tim pulled up on a MTB and was very helpfull giving Gems his high vis waterproof jacket to help keep warmish and he stayed with the bikes til my stepson picked them up I owe him big time thanks again Tim  Gems worst injury was caused by her cycling glasses which has changeable lenses and the right lens unclipped and dug into her right temple leaving a big hole so please people be carefull of which eye protection you buy as it could make your injuries worse.

The collision happened around 6.40pm and we got to the A&E at banbury at 8.30pm I stayed in there with her til 3am they kept Gems in over night for obs as she could not remember the collision at all has blured vision and a banging headache she needed stitches to the wound in her right temple and some in her right knee a big graze skin is missing from right side of mouth to her cheek right elbow is a very badly grazed along with the knuckles on both hands a slight graze on right shoulder and hip all her clothing is toast her helmet is cracked but did its job

The hospital let her out last night at 8pm she is so glad to be home

Jeeze! It almost sounds as if the old dear did it deliberately.

Did you involve the Police? Under the Highway Code pedestrians have as much obligation towards cyclists and drivers as the other way. She may have been batty or drunk or drugged or even suicidal, she has caused your step-daughter some pretty serious injuries after all.

And household insurance is there to pick up the compensation bill

The older folk do tend to walk into the road in front of cars all the time , i am not sure it was deliberate .

I hope she recovers quickly with no long term after affects and is not put off cycling by the incident.

No we never got the police involved just wanted to get to the hospital asap to get her sorted realy never thought about this sort of stuff til later on. Gems in some ways would not like to put the old lady through the ordeal of claiming she is a old lady and is from the looks of it very batty Gems can be too nice at times and put outhers before herself

She has had a bath today hair done and feels so much better, Off to local surgery soon to get dressing changed, gems has spent the day returning txts from friends and work coleages

Please all check your glases and make sure they are safe

I dont know how though

I hope Gemma makes a full recovery.

I would second informing the Police as the pedestrian (or her relatives/friends) might also do so and report it as a road traffic incident.

On my last fall my prescription glasses hit the road and, I guess, were only not further damaged due to my helmet taking the brunt of it.
