Twisting your neck and looking backwards gives a far better field of view than a mirror, I think.

Have one on the right end of my Hybrids handlebar, really would not like to do without it as apart from the obvious benefits when approaching a right turn you can keep an eye on traffic approaching from behind when nearing a pinch point in the road and judge your pace appropriately
