hi

i am after some advice on bib shorts. ( or indeed bib tights for winter)

i recently bought some Tenn bib shorts off ebay- they were cheap- theyre ok but after a while in the saddle become a little uncomfortable. i think the padding is a bit on the small side and not particularly deep- i have them in XXXL as XXL were a bit too tight on my shoulders. i am 6' 4" and 17 stone so i am not skinny.

i think it need a better quality pair so will have to pay more than the tenn ones (£25) but am on a bit of a budget. i also need brand that has larger sizing.

does anyone have any recommendations for a comfortable pair? really need some nice padding for my backside!

Castelli free aero bibs there a 100+ shorts but worth the investment
Its got a two layer padding system where it moves with the rider rather than you wiggling about after a while

Endura pros are quite good rapha too.

If your after mid market stuff then wiggles own brand is fantastic. I dnt know what there new stuff is like

Bin the tenn stuff might as well wear nowt

Any decent bib shorts will feel luxurious compared to the Tenn ones.

I'm a big fan of Santini shorts. Prendas usually have a good choice from around £50 upwards. Ribble also have a good choice at very good prices. I'm currently using some Santini Gara which I'm very happy with and they were only £70.

thanks for the replies- the Castelli ones look great but at £120 or so are expensive- but i suppose you have to pay for quality. whats castelli sizing like- i am tall and not all leg so need a larger fititng to be comfortable on my shoulders.

the DHB ones i presume are Wiggles own brand- they are probably more in my price range (£80 or so). i shall also look at the Mavics and Santinis mentioned

after a bit of googling - have also come across these under £100:
Endura Equipe Endurance
Pearl Izumo Pro inrcool
lusso pro gel

any comments on how are these for comfort and sizing?

Castelli are a bit on the smaller side so maybe a size up

Castelli have a pair called velocissimo retail for about 100

I started with girodana. Pretty good, was happy with them and then found Santini when I lived in Italy. Great shorts, good prices. Have tried assos, but not as impressed.

well i have been given a pretty good range of stuff here'. as one poster has said a decent pair will be far better than the Tenn ones i have..

i like the reviews on the Castelli Free Aeros- rrp is £135 but i have found them at £108 (Tredz & Wiggle). Pad is supposed to be great. That is just a bit much or me right now- maybe i shall get a pair next year. THey do 3XL so should be big enough though i know Castelli are smaller fitting.

Lusso Pro Gel & DHB Aero pro also looked worth considering as were Decathlon. only go up to XXL though and i wasnt sure would be big enough. My Tenn ones are 3XL and are certainly not to loose in me (the XXL were too small- i had to return them) Certainly the variation in sizing from brand to brand is confusing/frustrating.

I found good review on Sportful Total Comforts (over £100) - i notice Halfords stock some of their giro and tour bibs - £45- £65. dont know how they compare

the prendas link from amaferenga's post was useful. They have some good offers on mainly Santini and Nalini. In the end i have plumped for the Santini Car5 with twistgel insert- £60 free P & P ( i think rrp is nearly £150) so hopefully offer good value.

Santinis have some good reviews. £60 was more in my price range as well. got them in 4XL as well so fingers crossed they should fit my large frame!
