Enjoy! It's a good day if you take it for what it is - charity ride, not a sportive.

Did it about 20 years ago with the wife, longest ride either of us had done at the time, but you get pulled along with the throng.

Ditchling was a pain due to the number of inconsiderate walkers - the wife pushed my bike up (well it was lighter than her MTB ) while I pedalled hers carefully through the masses.

Is that the bike your doing it on?? Lol
It's rude to "lol"! Anyway, it's only 54 miles, you could just as easily lol at someone buying new pedals and shoes for 54 miles. The first time I rode that distance (or a little further, but still coincidently L2B) was on my folder that needed new cables so it only had one gear. I was going to a birthday party so I wore a dress (with bike shorts underneath) and pink sandals. Oh, and my brooks saddle was less than a month old.

You can over think these things

Is anyone else doing this on Father's Day?

I used to watch it as a kid as I lived not far from the route in Sussex, but now I live in the North West I decided to give it a go!

Have started to get all my kit ready, I've a merlin cycles own build cyclocross bike. I've just got some gatorskins to replace the slightly nobbly tyres it already has. I've also bought some spd pedals, shoes and cleats, need to try them as never used them before. Got a co2 pump for laziness and will be getting some spare inner tubes just in case. Can anyone else recommend anything else I might need?

I'm still a beginner cyclist, although I can cycle the 54 miles in a day, but would like to try and do it in under 5 hours! Going to start some training tomorrow and cut down on the fags as well lol
Find another one to do, it is over subscribed to many idiots doing it, There are much better rides to take on, At the end of the day you want to ride your bike, not push it up the hills.

I think they've reduced the numbers this year, limited to 25k apparently??

Yup, that was taken just after I arrived. You can read the whole sorry story here

Was. At the time I was commuting a few times a week, 16 miles each way, so basically the ride was only twice my daily commute distance. I've let my fitness fall a bit, I found the 123km on friday night a bit of a slog.

What time do you reckon you will be passing through Haywards Heath ?

We'll most likely be doing the standard hatler family thing of joining up with the route at Ditchling Common. Mrs h is doing the whole run this year.
Hiya, no idea! It's not like we plan this stuff with any accuracy! At least 2 of us are doing it on old folders, my mates is single speed with a pedal brake so that should be fun :-) Don't wait for us, we might be all day ....
