Witnessed a bad crash in Princess St yesterday. Guy tearing along 25mph+ swerved round back of bus, skidded off tracks and crashed heavily, bad head wound (no helmet  ) lots of folk came to your aid. If you are the cyclist hope you are ok but please in future wear a lid

Tram lines can be very dodgy at the best of times.

Agreed, on the few occasions I cycle along Princess St, I am very aware of both the busses and the tram lines. However as we are in the middle of Festival, with many visitors, it would not surprise me if the chap involved was not familiar with the dangers along there.

Could we try not to turn this into a helmet debate, there is a special forum for that.

He might not have known about the tramlines, but you'd think he might have spotted the bus in time not to have to swerve round it. And being the middle of festival season, which I imagine involves a high number of wandering pedestrians, he could have just slowed down a bit....

That said, I hate tramlines, I rarely have to cycle near them but I do so in a constant state of terror - same even with level crossings, which one has a better chance of crossing at right angles.

I was quite non plussed by the tram lines the first time i ventured croydon way - still wary of them.

The one's that come from Addiscombe Lane leading to Sandilands are especially treacherous due to the angle they are across the road

Never been down that road tbh.
Tend to go to via west croydon and station road with all the tram stops and pedestrians all over the place. (just dont tell me its a no cycling zone thats all i ask)

I don't like the tram lines and try to avoid Princess Street if I can. However I'll have to deal with them if/when they get to Haymarket as I can't really avoid going there...

There are some silly little yellow signs on Princess Street warning cyclists about the tram lines. They don't of course explain to motorists that cyclists have to be extra careful round the things...
