How do,

I'm taking the bike over to Beverley this weekend and was wondering if anyone could suggest a nice 30 mile or so ride starting and ending in Beverley.

Just looking at the map, is Hornsea any good? Would be nice to cycle to the coast. Oh and a good pub for a destination would be nice. ;)

The trouble with riding from Beverley to Hornsea is that the A1035 out of Beverley is pretty horrible to cycle on - fast cars and close overtaking. There's a footpath alongside which you could use as far as White Cross roundabout. An alternative would be to cycle to the north side of Hull and pick up the Trans Pennine Trail. I've never been to a pub in Hornsea so wouldn't know where to recommend. There's a tearoom at Hornsea Mere. Soltydog knows the area best so send him a PM if he doesn't spot this thread.

If you don't mind going inland you could head over to Market Weighton/Goodmanham. There's a good pub in Goodmanham and it's a nice ride over. The Pipe and Glass at South Dalton is also good if you want a 2 pub stop ride! You can follow Sustrans route 66 to get to Market Weighton.

Thanks, I'll go to Goodmanham via South Dalton then, unless I get any better suggestins.

A lot of peeps seem to like stopping at Millington - some great hills around - I can recommend the descent ( from Beverley ) and the ascent ( back to Beverely ) of Millington Pasture as top riding, plus it's got one of the few hairpins you'll find around these parts! Preferred route probably Cherry Burton, Etton, South Dalton then go west + north to Middleton on the Wolds, North Dalton, Huggate, Millington. This might be a touch long at 21 miles out - 42 miles out + back - but it would be worth it.

Though to be fair - the forecast changes from day to day...

The Beverley inland route is nicer; however A1035 more managable in summer and once your past 'White Cross roundabout' you can take more scenic / off main track routes, if you want to, "see the seaside - to see the sea"(in the rain).

Wrygarth Inn on the way to Hornsea seems to be Salty's favourite, ( Station Road, Great Hatfield, Hornsea, HU11 4UY ,01964 533 369)

+! for Market Weighton and environs.

If you find yourself in the Wicstun Tearoom in MW, amaze the young lad serving with your cycling prowess - when I said I was heading for Beverley, he said "What, today!" (it's about 12 miles....)

If you want to go further, and don't mind a couple of stiff little hills, Pocklington is a nice litle town, lots of cafes. That would probably be more like 40 miles round trip though.

I used to live there - some stunning rides on lanes not busy roads are the norm. Just head NW from Beverley and potter around the roads - lots of options. If you are up for a club run, I can heartily recommend VC Beverley. They do their club run on Sun morning at meet at the Leisure Centre. http://veloclubbeverley.org.uk/

I would def. second that - use to do a fair bit of riding with them before I started Orienteering again seriously. A really good bunch of chaps and chapesses.

Thanks, the website looks good. The intention was to do the ride on the Saturday though, followed by a few pints in Nellies on Saturday night so might not be quite fresh enough on Sunday at 9.00am!

Haha yea, I've had a similar comment from a hairdresser recently when I told her I was going on a 20 mile evening run. She looked at me like I had two heads when I told her I was training for a 100 mile sportive!
