Mrs D is a Coventry lass, latterly from Binley Woods. We were married in Cov register office, the oldest in the country.

I well remember Coventry from my student days in the early 80's. The time I first saw the cross in the ruins of the old cathedral really stopped me in my tracks. A powerful image.
That's when I escaped from Coventry - 1983! My parents have died, my last remaining friend there died, and one sister has moved ... The only reason that I ever go back now is because my other sister and her family still live there.

As for where I live now ... if you have read any of my ride reports then you know the answer to that question! It isn't the weather, it isn't a vast array of cultural attractions, it is the hilly countryside and how fantastic it is for cycling and walking in.

The surrounding countryside, the old buildings and it being a nice place to live are all in its favour. However, the weather isn't great. I've lived in Buxton for almost 11 years, but Stoke on Trent was my birthplace and like most industrial cities, it's a pale shadow of its former self.

Brighton, too much to mention. The sea, the Downs, the boozers...

Forget the cathedral, the very best place in Winchester was T. Foster and Son, tobacconist. A mind-bogglingly wonderful retail experience which sadly closed in 1978, the year I left town. It's been lovingly recreated in the City Museum and is supposed to be well worth a visit.
