In preparation for getting on the bike, realised I need a few accessories... Foot ware, tights, shorts, helmet (maybe lol) etc. Went on to evans website and nearly had a mild heart attack!!!!

What are the best online shops from your experience?

Chain Reaction Cycles and Wiggle are probably the best known. Both have a good reputation for customer service but are not always the cheapest.

Merlin are pretty good, but I've found their stock levels to be occasionaly optimistic = See ColinJ posting https://www.cyclechat.net/ for a 10% discount.

SJS are great for odd components, tools and weird stuff

Ribble are cheap, but don't order anything you need quickly, and gods help you if there is a problem, cos Ribble wont.

If you register with the main ones already mentioned (Wiggle, Evans, Planet X, Ribble, Chain Reaction) you'll get emails every week telling you about their latest offers. I think the list price of cycling clothes is high but when you can get it from these sites in their sales it's much more reasonable; Planet X in particular have some very good offers.

I've found Winstanleys and JE James to be real pains stock wise, the stock levels on their websites don't seem to be realtime so the orders I have tried to make are rarely fulfilled.

I've just bought a couple of short sleeved jerseys from Decathlon but went into the store to see how large (or small) they come in. Embarrassingly I need XXXL. Not the best jersey you'll ever get but good enough for everyday use.

I also have a few Lidl/Aldi tops. I keep a regular eye out for their bike weeks.

I also rate the Tenn bib shorts and am looking at getting another pair.

I work colleague of mine is currently having problems with Wiggle, ordered something on Saturday, it was dispatched Monday but instead of the expected Royal Mail it was sent by City Link. So the colleague, was abit upset about this as they new there would not be in to receive it and the local depot is not local at all. Contacted City Link to get it redirected to work, they said that it can only be redirected by agreement with the sender. The colleague contacted Wiggle on Tuesday who charged £6 to redirect the parcel but still no parcel and now Wiggle are ignoring his emails. Didn't help that something I order from Wiggle on Tuesday, arrived this morning via Royal Mail.

I guess that the prices were quite frightening - as recommended already, if you can go to Aldi and/or Lidl when they have their bike promotions on. Or check Ebay for best (lowest??) prices. That's the best route if you are not too fussed about wearing non-branded items.

The two items where I did splash out was an Altura NightVision wind/rain proof jacket and a DHB long sleeve base layer. These two are worth every penny.... Enjoy your riding

Id recommend www.cyclesportsuk.co.uk. Cheap online retailer. I bought 2 x schwalbe tyres opting for the free (non priority) delivery option and they arrived the next day.
