Just remember that the only part that needs oil is the rollers not the plates on the side. wipe off excess oil as it will collect dirt & wear the chain quicker.

I used to use Finish Line wet, but after trying Chain-L, I could never go back to Finish Line unless Chain-L became unavailable. One application will last 500 to a 1000 miles providing you do not get too much crap on your chain, then it needs cleaning but when applied correctly, the transmission becomes almost silent. I have my doubts about it in very heavy rain though, but I find most oils wash off after being ridden in extremely wet conditions anyway

Fixed that for you.

Did not need fixing, thank you, even Finish Line wet, will wear off when ridden in extreme wet conditions. In fact I said "most" oils in my OP, but in reality, I have never found one that will stay on in extreme conditions.

Do you normally edit other peoples posts to reflect your own views? If so wind your neck in and keep your own views to yourself and for others to decide.

I use the Finish Line wet lube in the winter, but find that even if I only apply a drip on each roller and wipe off the excess, there's still a lot of oil comes off the chain onto the frame and back wheel. Is the Chain-L stuff the same? I'm currently using some of the Finish Line dry lube that is good for keeping the bike and chain clean, but I find I need to reapply every 50 miles or so even in the dry.

Chain-L is very viscous, it needs warming up before application. But you don't kneed to use it very often.

I used to use WD40 when I was a kid, because I was naive to it. My bikes never lasted more than 6 months, so either you're using some special grade of the stuff or I was stupid enough to apply it wrong...

Either way, for me, I clean my chain with white spirit (works very well and dirt cheap compared to "proper" chain cleaners), rinse it through with water then dry it off really well. Give the cassette a good blast of muc-off degreaser, rinse that off then oil with Finish Line wet (summer or winter, I've got a bottle of the dry as well but the once I used it it just didn't work for me). Give the chain a good spin round, leave it 10 minutes then wipe off the excess.

As mentioned, Chain-L is very viscuous, when I apply it I used to follow the guidelines and warm the bottle of oil in warm water for about 10 minutes, but on hot summer days, I apply it straight from the bottle and let it stand in the sun, but if the air temperature is not warm, then I apply it straight from the bottle onto each side of the roller with a small modelling paintbrush and then warm the chain up with a hot air gun and just let the oil soak in.

After a ride or two, the chain may become black with surplus oil which may have spread and attracted a bit of dust, but if you want, just give it a quick wipe, otherwise it does no harm.

And one other additional point is that it actually doubles the life of my chains, usually I wear one out on average every month and half, 1200 - 1500 miles, but with Chain-L, I easilly get 2400 miles before the chain hits 0.75 on the gauge

i am still in search for a perfect chain lube. thin ones don't last very long, but improve drivetrain efficiency; thicker/viscous lubricants keep the chain quiet longer, but increased resistance can be felt through the pedals (except single speed/hub geared bikes, where the chain doesn't go around jockey wheels).
