As per title. Prefer Alfine but Nexus OK too at the right price. Also hydraulic disks if poss.

Thanks to Vickster for suggesting Ridgeback Flight 04 2016, currently on offer @ various places http://www.wheelies.co.uk/p85561/Ridgeback-Flight-04-2016-Road-Bike.aspx @ £599 (SRP £949), my favourite looks-wise atm.

Within that narrow price range, not that many mainstream alternatives: Charge Grater 3 (brown, anonymous, unlikely to get stolen, or even noticed LOL) £639 https://www.evanscycles.com/charge-grater-3-2016-hybrid-bike-EV240651; Ghost Square Urban 4 (£715 with discount) http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=4178&category_id=144; and Cube Travel Pro (Nexus 8 only but with £100+ 'free goods' offer) http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/products.php?show=16842.

Edit: Also getting good reviews: 13 Intuitive Gamma £649 but extra 10% off with CTC membership plus other discounts/cashback available http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/hybrid-bikes/13-intuitive-gamma-hybrid-bike-2015

I've got the Whyte Victoria but I assume you're looking for men's even though you haven't actually specified that? https://totalwomenscycling.com/commuting/urban-bikes/great-under-700-urban-bikes-435/7/

It's supposed to be one of the best hybrids on the market and costs £699. I personally love it.

You could also look at the Cube Hyde Race, and the Roux A8

Thanks annirak, am just looking @ the Roux as I write! Slightly out of my price range but is pretty much the business. Not sure it's worth £400 or so more than the Ridgeback though...

Yes to Cube too, they have a wide range - slightly pedestrian (lol) looking though IMHO, as is the Charge; possibly a good thing not to be noticed whilst parked ;-)
