Quite dreadful
Location
lost somewhere
Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, and Wandsworth. Great places to ride a bike at all times, especially commuting. I do worry that the traffic-free Batterea Park end of my journey to work is the one that I find the least enjoyable. BTW, I'm certainly not "Alley Cat" material .

Manchester - not because of the fantastic city centre but because Manchester is surrounded with great cycling country.

Cheshire to the south for flattish rides and pretty villages.

Derbyshire to the east for Pennine scenery.

Lancashire to the north for fascinating mill country and Ribble Valley / Bowland further north.

The flatlands of the Wirral and the Fylde to the west.

Globalti......I'd say east and north lancashire pushing into west yourkshire for pretty much all cycling(road and offroad).
I ride into Manchester each day, if the students were removed there would be many cyclists.

There were plans for decades to turn the chalk pits at Cherry Hinton into an official (as opposed to an unofficial) mountain biking centre. They never succeeded in raising the necessary cash and now its become a nature reserve.
When I see 'turned into a nature reserve' I read it as 'abandoned'.

My experience of city cycling
Aberdeen. 10 minutes from anywhere and you're out on minor roads and some nice cycling. The NCNs in the area are well signposted too. I've found cycling in the city ok too, drivers all seem to be quite polite for the most part, but theres not a great deal of facilities.

My fair home city of Hull:
Has always had a high cycling culture so weight of numbers helps, not many places more than about 3 miles from city centre and it is flatter than a flat thing. A mere nod in direction of facilities and some driver impatience.
