Best commuter pannier?

In 1983 I bought a Carradice saddle bag for the same purpose. A little before laptops but it held my stuff for going to college. It's now about to be pensioned off from daily use on my town bike. Thirty-five years use ain't bad imo.

Worth an eye on Freecycle or similar? My son picked up a couple of old, but very serviceable Karrimor panniers ... for nowt .
