They were Pavé 28s, rim brake road wheels that cost about £195 a pair. We had to get Superstar to re-rim them twice because the rims got bent by minor potholes.
I have always found Mavic or Fulcrum to be a reliable wheel. The choice of nipple (Alum/Brass) seems to be a personal preference thing amongst bike mechanics though.
They're not the lightest but I've been using Shimano RX010 QR wheels on my disc winter/audax bike, they're pretty much bomb proof otherwise, many years of service out of those, great value for money. I had considered buying a lighter pair of wheels which I may get around to later this year, as I hope to resume audax rides when things recover.
