Hi all I am quite new to cycling. I would prefer to support a lbs but don't want to pay through the nose for the benefit. I also like to ask advice regarding specific items and don't necessarily want to be steered to a item just because it is the most expensive. I have been into a couple in the area and I not overly impressed when requesting advice can anyone help with suggestions. Many thanks.

In all seriousness I would suggest Ewood Bikes which as the name suggests is close to the Rovers ground, almost opposite The Aqueduct pub.

I don't know an LBS in Burnley but I can promise you Ian and the lads won't let you down. It's a nice little bike shop which listens, understands and offers advice.

Being quite small the range of parts and bikes in stock is not huge but anything can be ordered in. As for being pushed to the more or most expensive item I usually find I'm offered alternatives. So the advice would be "this will do the job but this would be better because."

Recently I bought new wheels, the choice was between two sets with £120 price difference. I asked if knowing my level of riding if the more expensive ones would improve my riding, the answer was simply No..

Ride on in Rawtenstall seems to be involved in MTBing up this way and in the development of Lee and cragg quarries.

Ozzies in Nelson used to be good but I've not really used them for many years. I popped in last year though and it still seems to be ok. It tended to be more of an MTB shop than for roadies but has probably changed. It's on Scotland Road in case it's changed its name, just across from The Bull pub.

I'd agree with this, used Ewood cycle several times, but always found Pendle cycles in Padiham to be very helpful. And a bit further afield Pedal Power in Cliteroe

On yer bike (near the courts), Raleigh cycle centre (duke bar), halfords in burnley are ok, pendle cycles in padiham are good and Ossies in Nelson is a one man cheap and cheerful shop.

Edit: Ossies is a very good one man cheap and cheerful shop.

Yes, Pendle Cycles is probably the most serious roadie shop and the owner has a rather "austere" manner but it's a good enough shop for parts and advice.
