I've got a steel fork on my hybrid (alloy frame) and it does much the same job as carbon (well almost) just a few hundred grams more... which isn't an issue unless your doing big miles or racing. The roads round here range from excellent to rough abandoned rural roads, with more potholes than road!

Agreed - you don't really need carbon to smooth out the ride if you're toting hybrid type tyres - they will soak up all the buzz you could ever want.

So would you say to go for the merida speedster or the claud butler urban 500 both these bikes come out at the same price locally. The new shop that as opened in newport gwent says that claud butler are a budget cycle with inferior components. The specs looked better to me but I dont know because I have not ridden for such a long time

Ask to test ride, only you can decide which is right for you. No decent bike shop should refuse if you are serious about a purchase

Which model speeder is it as most look to be £600+ If it's reduced from £600, then it should be a better bike. I don't like the styling of the CB but that's my personal taste not yours
