Yes MTBing is expensive. When you're playing around in the mud don't expect any of the parts to last long!.
Disc pad life completely depends on where and how you ride; and obvoiusly the sort of miles you're clocking up. It is possible to wear a set out in one ride but realistically you should get a good few months per set.
