Well more a wasp actually,

I have had a few collisions with flying insects in the last couple of weeks, banging into my forehead and one hitting my eye, since when inhave started wearing glasses every ride but...

On my the last mile of a gentle (ish) Friday night ride when I thought I had heard something contact my helmet, seconds later I was desperately applying the brakes and unbuckling the helmet as there was some agitated insect stinging me as it attempted to escape. Identified as a wasp as it flew to freedom

Has anyone had similar experiences....

Be careful....it's a jungle out there (from Hill Street Blues I think) - happy weend end cyclying

You can get helmets with a little net lining that prevents this happening. Others wear caps.

I haven't been stung on a bicycle...yet. (Knocks on wood) I have had a bee go down my shirt while riding a motorcycle and it stung me. I also had a bat fly into my shoulder on a motorcycle while going about 60 mph plus. That hurt pretty bad too but didn't hurt me as bad as it did the bat.

I always wear eye protection on a bicycle but a helmet not so much. I have thought about how easy it would be for an insect to get in a bicycle helmet. I may start wearing a bandana or bicycle cap when I do wear a helmet.

It's one of the reasons I don't wear a helmet. Got stung on the nogging by a Bee. My helmet at the time had a net lining but the bugger still got in and started drilling.

And as what @Boon 51 said, glasses are a must.

As a temporary solution to save buying a new helmet a ladies hair net stretched over the helmet will do a pretty good job of keeping the little bu**ers out, and is virtually invisible from more than a couple of feet away. Only slight downside is that if one does get in it can't always get out again!

Had quite a few smack me in the face and one stung me just behind my right earlobe which caused a violent earache and numbness within minutes - took about 3-hours to go!
Even had one hit my front teeth, half of it went in my mouth and was the most disgusting thing I ever tasted.

I always wear cycling glasses and all my helmets have front mesh.
