Adaptor or converter? As milkfloat implies, the two are not necessarily the same. Adaptors are already out there.

So we could say that no particular design of BB is perfect and they all can have issues and possibly, all you hear is the bad and not the good on the internet?

You could say that - but some designs are better than others and are more likely to give trouble free service for longer.

Most of the posts here are beyond me technically but I had problems with a boardman bb which I think is the one your talking about

Went back three times, issue continued
They ordered an upgraded part and put it in with minimal pressure they told me, not had any issues since

I've a BB30 on two bikes. I dont think its that dissimilar to the BB30a

Its easy to read the internet and draw a conclusion that they're the work of the devil. My bearings eventually went and I replaced them with some from ebay for a fiver.

The issue is usually movement within the BB of the bearing cases themselves, however you can get the same issue with converters and adapters, they can creak and move as well if you think about it. I decided to keep with the BB30 and used loctite to prevent movement- so far so good.

The main reason for me was because i already have a crankset thats only done a few hundred miles that i prefered to use.
