When was the last time you stripped and re-greased your stem/bars/headset? Is is definitely the BB? Seat? Cleats? I'm sure you've eliminated all these already, but thought I would ask.
I've not done those things too recently, but then again they aren't things I've ever done often on any bike TBH, annually maybe, but certainly not often and never had an issue in those areas either.

It definitely sounds like it's coming from the bottom end IMO.

That's a bit of a let down for you
Check the pedals also as well to the advice by Herzog .. if it was the BB30 then I'd have thought it would have been the same without you standing on the pedals. Creaking sounds are funny things, they can resonate from other areas to places you think they are coming from. See if you can have a friend ride upsides you and see if they can listen and pinpoint the sound source.

Yeah I've got a few things to try but I was so annoyed today I just locked it away:headshake:I can rule the pedals out as they are brand new DA pedals, they're greased and tight, but granted there could be other things. I'll have a fettle one night this week.

I upgraded my FSA bearings last year...i long since came to the conclusion i don't need ceramics, low friction steel bearings are enormously freer running than standard bearings....and much cheaper than ceramics.
Ask your mate about SKFs deep groove bearings-2RSL or -2RSH, i think they were the suffix's, SKF Explorer range.
The bearing itself is pretty much the same, its the seal that's designed to give less friction.

Put it this way...installed standard bearings, no chain fitted, cranks spin maybe 2 revolutions when spun by hand/
Installed low friction sealed versions.....they just spin so so much better, for longer, maybe 10 revolutions

smokeysmoo I hope the BB30 works out for you after some fettling. If not would you consider selling you Chainset? I have the opposite problem - good BB30 in a Cannondale Synapse but a dodgy pedal insert in an FSA crank that has worked loose and is starting to creak as I peddle uphill.

Hi avsd, I've actually got it advertised for sale right now.

The chainset with Stronglight CT2 rings, (51/36), bearing removal tool, bearing fitment tools and two BB30 bearings, (fitted and ridden 10 miles only).
I'm converting the bike to Hollowtech II so I need to sell it to fund a new one anyway.
You interested then?
Cheers

BB30 = press fit bearings in the frame

Hollowtech II = bearing cups screwed into frame

Cartridge = sealed cartridge threaded into frame

Does that help?

Aye cheers Smokey
