Hi All,

I want to buy 3m of some kind of 'worktop' for our bathroom. We intend to have a new sink, 'sunk' into the worktop, which will need to be cut-out for this - effectively, the new sink will 'sit' in the cut-out.

The existing worktop was beginning to de-laminate, so I'd welcome any recommendations for a replacement that looks good, is durable (resistant to scratches) and isn't extortionately expensive.

I'm also looking to buy a new shower base - are these all 'much of a muchness', or is there a standout material ? (pardon the pun).

Cheers for any helpful responses.

I made a worktop in the bathroom from some shower board off cuts. That was 26 years ago and they are still as good today.

How thick were the shower board offcuts ? - whatever worktop I have, will need to be strong enough that that it doesn't flex whilst keeping the sink in situ.

3 meters is big sink area to cover, must be a big bathroom Sounds like you need proper quartz/stone/marble, it's the one 'regret' for our bathroom, we ended up with a vinear effect counter top for the sink, should have just paid for some kind of stone.

For shower trays we have a variety in the house, from cheapo B&Q finest to the stupidly price composite stone one in the ensuite........If I was budget watching, the stone shower tray would REMAIN on the list, honestly it feels so much nicer under feet than any other shower tray I've stood on.

Out of all the luxuries we have wasted money on in the house renovations the fancy shower tray is one of best 'value' indulgences.

Why not sit a sink ontop of the worktop? The best shower trays are concrete substrate tray, which are non flexible. The downside with some of these trays is the floor underneath needs to be either concrete or solid base like 18-22 plywood with additional support.
I'm not a plumber but trade but have installed several bathrooms suites.

You can get solid trays which use quality stand off legs to raise the tray for plumbing access. Just Trays JT. are one company

This is a JustTray quadrant concrete shower base with glass screen on legs nearing completion, me and the Mrs did last year
