You do have to obey the regulations in this area

Also deal with the condensation.
An extractor might be mandatory.

Yep, talked through the regs with the electrician. He will run a cable outside and through the wall.
I already have an extractor fan fitted.

I thank everyone** for their help. I have decided on a Dimple 3 KW wall mounted heater.
** apart from @oldwheels who has caused me to have nightmares

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I have a wall mounted fan heater with pull cord switch. Excellent.
The towel rail we had before was condemned by electricians as unsafe according to the regulations. The switch for this was outside the bathroom so perfectly safe IMO but when our bathroom was refitted it had to go.

my dad was a sparky and did the same with a heated towel rail , drilled a hole through the wall and plugged it into the bedroom and he was a health and safety rep so he wouldn't have done anything daft.

This won't be "plugged" into anything.
Hard wired (if that's the phrase) in the garage. Out, along the wall and into the bathroom.
