I have a bike with Specialised gel pads and one without the pads, guess which bike I always chose to ride ?

Always chose the bike with the gel pads, they really do make a difference. I must get round to fitting them on the other bike.

I've been double wrapping for years and you get used to the look after a while. At 6'5" and large lanky hands I felt I needed both a larger circumference bar to hold and a wider surface area to rest on. So far it's worked out great. Now I find it weird riding a bike with single wrapped bars, just feels too small.

If you want something really soft and squishy you could try 'Grab on' foam for drop bars. I used this some years ago and it is very comfortable. You slide it on with washing up liquid. It is still available for £16.

I double wrapped my bars a while back and found it a rather odd sensation afterwards, just a tad too thick and really not comfortable on the tops in the crook of my thumb.

Maybe just me using the wrong tape though and I found it didn't really help kill the buzz from the crappy roads round here or the numbness that comes with distance as much as I hoped. Sacked it and went back to single wrap quite quickly
