...I agree guy's....I've had the box set for a few years now and never tire of watching it...great characters/action/direction etc without the Holywood OTT treatment..the factually based story lines and the input from the 'real life' characters adds to the realism and always leaves me respecting and appreciating the sacrifices of that generation....
....have never seen 'Survivors'...but sadly I can just about remember the original series from the 70's ...and I think I quite enjoyed that at the time...;)

I'm steering clear of Survivors. Watched the original series in the 70's and don't want to spoil my memories of it - watching on my first 'own' black and white tv, which went 'pop' just after the last episode, but which meant I didn't have to watch what the rest of the family were into.

BoB is good. The book is excellent. On the dvd version, there's a bunch of diary stuff by one of the actors showing how they trained for the roles. Interesting.

Band of Brothers is far less jingoistic than Saving Private Ryan and the episodes in the forest in Bastogne were truly scary...wouldn't like to be there!

+1 ....also that poignant episode when they liberated the first concentration camp....was real moving stuff and really gave the impression that even so close to the war end that the allies still had no idea of what really went on in Hitlers Europe....

One of my favourite all time series. Interestingly a lot of the actors were British pretending to be American. I have the box set as well.

And made you feel what it must have been like living outdoors in the snow with no tents, sleeping bags, or modern cold weather gear.

Loved it the first time I saw it, and got the DVD tin-box set that Christmas.

A few years ago, I was standing in the foyer of the cinema at FountainPark during the EIFF beside a bloke who was wearing a nice suit. After a few minutes, I glanced around to look for my girflriend at the time, only to realise I was standing beside Demian Lewis, who played Dick Winters in BoB.

I wanted to tell him how much I'd enjoyed the series, and shake his hand, but in true Scots style I just smiled at him and turned back the other way !

I know. I did the same to Billy Connolly as we squeezed by each other (having both taken a short-cut through an enclosed bus-shelter on North Bridge to get by the slow-moving tourist hordes). I just grinned at him as he approached, and he just grinned at me.
