I really like eating bananas; sadly they give me stomach ache.
I like the idea, but
I reckon the bananas would bounce out of that cage on the first bit of rough road surface, in order to stop them bouncing out the cage would have to grip the fruit tight which would result in bruised / squashed bananas.
would be my concern also.

Now try Italian banana's, for a third option.
Classic use of the greengrocer's apostrophe

I tried googling "Italian banana" and all I got was

Just saw this on facebook. Not looking deeper myself, as bananas are the devil's fruit xx(

(OK, it's 3D printer file http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:678170)

Love the fact that my design is in discussion by cycling folk - thanks all!

If you are tempted to download the free file, please note: it hasn't been extensively road tested as yet, so there may be an unrestrained banana issue with this first prototype but i'm hoping with testing and a few tweaks its gonna be a global smash - or at least a nice quirky gadget gift!

And correct, deliberately it only accepts small bananas - to keep cycle weight down.
But the appropriate sized banana is readily available in all good banana outlets.

As you mentioned, (for the moment) only available as a free 3D printable file download but i'm looking into bringing this to market - so please watch this space.

cheers all!

@francfalco - kudos, good design. Can you now work on fixing bananas, so I can eat them again? It's the taste and the texture. Curved plantains would probably work for me. I had my last banana when I was 7 or so.

Sadly, I don't think there are many 3d printers in our midst, but I have used your design as an example to explain to people what I think 3D printing will be in our future. Building parts to match exactly what you need, at home.

Agree, the banana taste/texture thing could be deal-breaker for this design but i'm hoping that there are enough cyclists around that weren't scared from young age to make it viable? But you're spot on with your evaluation of desktop 3d printing - it will make the world a better place!

Cheers
