Well, this is what I look like when cycling in the cold. I simply weep and weep. It dries up after a bit but I look utterly tragic until it does.

I wear normal specs but wonder if there is anything short of wearing ski goggles which could help me here? Any tips or dodges?

And should this be in the cycling kit section?

Thanks TMN - that's a worry as my eyes are dry to begin with. I wonder if switching to contacts will help - I do wear them but mostly prefer specs. I have been meaning to wear them more but had a scratch on my cornea so haven't got round to it. Wearing contacts prevents you crying when peeling onions but the cause for that is a bit different!

I could then wear my wrap-around sunglasses, which aren't very dark (in fact I don't wear them much as they are a bit useless for skiing, which is what I bought them for; now wear goggles). The blu-tack look could also be something I could "work"!

I also wear normal specs and when I buy a pair of specs I buy them with cycling in mind something wide and not tall so that I can wear them close to the face and they protect the eyes a fair bit. I've used daily disposable contact in the past and wrap arounds but when money was tight I cut them out and have never restarted. Payrise permitting, next year I think I might or invest in something from optilabs.

I have to have contacts for various things I do but I do think dailies are expensive - I have 2-weeklies. My ordinary specs were frankly chosen for style and I might even make my neck a bit more comfy if I went for closer-fitting wraparounds (ie not find myself looking over the top of them when I lift my eyes - have to crick my neck instead). The thing I find weird with wraparounds is how you can feel your eyelashes touching the lenses.

FWIW, I tried on a few pairs to get that fit where I'm not seeing over the top of the frame, it gives a headache!

You must have long eyelashes.

Just get some wraparounds that don't do this. I bought a pair of prescription cycling glasses from spex4less. Very pleased with them.

I don't know how much dailies are as I've never had them, but I use monthly contacts from Specsavers @ £7 a month which I think is good VFM.

If you are short or long sighted you will need an RX insert. I had one done a few years ago, but found the insert fitted the Bolle Safety glasses. Then this year I ordered some I-bike glasses off ebay (Oakley radar look alike but don't say Oakley) for £12. Came with an RX insert you can get glazed, but my existing ones fitted. Very happy with them as there are spare nose and ear grips and five lenses, case and soft lens cloth. Getting an RX insert glazed is less than £50 on line.

Back in the 80s before fancy sport-specs London cycle-commuters could often be seen in Ski googles. I used to wear them with a woolen balaclava and they were fab.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I am probably considered sufficiently eccentric in my village to get away with goggles but I do fancy researching the more technical solutions!
