Another vote for Mrs D. I wouldn't want anyone to be fired anyway. Just a reminder of how to drive properly as they were taught and tested on in order to obtain a licence.

I suspect 'household name' companies do actually take it seriously and reprimand or more, depending on record - most have woken up to the potential consequences of reputational damage. Smaller/local companies, much more variable.

probably yeah. IMO, seems like a bad idea to pay drivers per load or delivery. There shouldn't be that pressure, because it's just tempting to drive unsafely or take risks.

They can be paid by the hour, by the miles covered, by load or a percentage of the load value. I agree, any pay system that can encourage unsafe driving is bad, and what about the parcel drivers being given that many to deliver that they cant drive safety and do the job.

If a transport manager get a couple of complaints about the same driver within a year or so, when the third call comes they will getting rid of them,

A mate of mine was a London bus driver, he was fired after one too many incidents.
Knowing his temper from an early age, I was not surprised.

I was surprised however by the next driving job he got,
He now drives a police high speed pursuit vehicle!

I got the number off the back of a van. I rang them and asked for the manager. He confirmed he was driving the van at the time of the alleged incident. I gave him such a bollocxing. Called him all the names in the book, threatened him with all sorts. He was so apologetic and grovelling. So I tried again. I told him he was such a sh1t driver he should be riding a Harley Davison ๐Ÿค”!!!!!!
He replied "Your that kin little Englishman you barsteward"
Ive told my mate so many times that having the number on a van is not always a good idea. ๐Ÿ˜

Not all HGV drivers are as you may hope. I know several and most are competent and considerate but I have had conversations with some timber haulers who were real knuckle draggers and said they would drive me off the road if I was in front of them. That was with a bike and not the trike I have now.
A long time ago I had a run in with a knight of the road that still gives me the fear.

I was driving a small unmarked hire van back to the office which was on an Industrial estate off the M62 near Leeds. It was pretty busy and as I queued on the off slip road I became aware of an artic that had driven down the hatched zone to my right and was now trying to force his way in (it wasnโ€™t โ€˜filteringโ€™ heโ€™d passed about 200m of stationary traffic). I refused to give way so he started hooting accompanied by a bit of gesticulation and what I lip read to be colourful language. Then the traffic started moving again and I went on my way and didnโ€™t give it another thought... until I got to my destination five minutes later.

To enter the office car park I had to turn off onto a short ramp, and use a fob to open a sliding gate. As I was about to get out I became aware of some thing in my rear view mirror - the truck had followed me all the way there and was now blocking me in. I stayed put while the driver got out and berated me for by bad driving, and when I refused to get out and face him like a real man he repeatedly punched and head butted the drivers window and side of the van. In the end I had to call my boss and ask him to come out and mediate (from inside the gate). Fortunately he got bored at this point, or maybe realised he had somewhere more important to be and left.

Maybe I should have been more polite and let him pull in front of me, but the idea that anyone could get so angry over something so trivial was a real eye opener.

I work as a delivery driver for a high street catalogue store that has given up on the catalogue.......... We drive clearly marked vehicles and have to bear it in mind when someone does something reprehensible in front or to us.
"bite yer tongue and count to ten......"
Because yes, if there is a complaint about our driving the offender is hunted down and ultimately, doesn't work for the company anymore.

Wish Tesco and Asda took complaints about their van delivery drivers as seriously!

I once emailed Grittish Bass about the *good* driving of one of their drivers. You'd think they'd be happy about that and respond with a nice email saying how they'd found the driver and passed on my message.

Nope. Nothing. Not even a standard response. I doubt they'd care if I reported bad driving from one of their drivers.
