My brother makes me put my helmet away in a cupboard whenever he visits because he thinks that it looks pretty scary from the back. (He's 27)

The worrying thing is that if you aren't wearing your helmet correctly you may as well not be wearing one at all.

A helmet should be fitted so that it is horizontal on your head, you should be able to see the front brim slightly if you look upwards. It should be fairly firmly on your head even without the straps - using that back adjustment. And you should be able to fit 2 fingers under the chin strap or feel it when you open your mouth wide. And the triangle bits at the side should lie just underneath your ears.

That covers it nicely...

Something else, a little OT. If you have kids who ride to a park, make sure they take their helmets off before they climb on any climbing frames or in trees. The protective helmet can all too easily become a strangling hazard if they slip - the helmet sticks out all round the head, to catch on stuff.

Oh, I can't stand that! It totally freaks me out when I see kids dangling from climbing frames with their helmets on. I'm sure the mothers resent my interference when I explain the problem etc but I couldn't live with myself afterwards if anything happened and I'd kept quiet.

The parents that I've spoken to about it are genuinely surprised that a safety helmet could be in any way dangerous...doh...

And why not get a Davies, Craig Motoring Helmet after all the risk of head injury is just as high...

If wear a helmet because Pro cyclist wear one, why not wear a motoring helmet for driving, after all racing drivers do...

Well in my case it was the regaining consiousness in the back of the ambulance momeent rather than the doesn't Lance look cool in his yellow lid moment;)

One problem with helmets they promote boring hairstles among the pros its all crew cuts these days and no wonder: my current Robert Millar 25th anniversery ponytail is a real b*gger to get under the helmet:laugh:
