If your getting sore after 15 miles, then something definately wrong there. Set the saddle absolutely horizontal (use a sprit level) and buy some decent shorts, something like dhb's from wiggle and perfectly fine. Then apply some chamois cream and try again.
If your still chaffing after 15 miles, then a bike fit and/or different saddle are the way forward. Do you have a bike shop nearby, go down ther with the bike and get some advice. If nothing else buy the chamois cream from them and start building up a relationship
Hello there.

I used to have a problem on my mountain bike and tried a number of different saddles but they didn't really make much difference.

When I got a road bike the problem practically went away. Same shorts etc but I think it is the position change. Are you sat too upright? Lots of online bike fitting advice about saddle height reach to bars etc. I used one of them and transformed my comfort.

Hope you get it sorted.

Will have a look at an online fitting/setup

Thanks for advice

Generally, the more panels shorts have, the better, as they can be cut to conform a little better than those with less panels, giving the lycra a chance to fit properly and provide some more support to your muscles. Usually, the more panels, the more flat seams, the more sewing, the more expensive. Buying good quality also helps here. Vickster gave some good brand names for Britain's market, and you can't go much wrong there.

I dont have a massive budget but I will happily pay for good quality shorts without spending silly money. I will have a look on wiggle now.

Cheers
Personally, I find my sportful ones the most comfortable, but these are the women's versions

Sigma sport sell them and often have deals in their clearance section. Lots of guys say the bib shorts stay put better and are more comfortable than waist shorts (too much faffage with bibs for me being female)

Thanks everyone for your advice, I had the bike setup using an online guide, saddle hight, fore-aft position was wrong and cleats were to far forward. New shorts and some chamois cream. Went out today and rattled of 35 mile no problem at all. Under carriage is all intact and not sore at all, such a difference. Starting to get the bug now so thinking of getting a proper road bike to do the century ride in June instead of my boardman hybrid which I love to be honest. I like the look of a Pinarello FP Uno Carbon Tiagra 2013 Road Bike evans have. it's reduced from £1900 to £1450. Has anyone have any experience of this bike or could suggest one.

Thanks again to all for the good advice
