Back In The Saddle After 7 Year Hiatus

My last post on the forum was marking my road bike as ‘sold’ back in November 2017.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and although I continued to occasionally ride my old cyclocross bike, my cycling was much reduced in the interim. I have retired, remarried and relocated to SW Scotland and just over a year ago picked up an ectopic heartbeat, which at 62 came as a bit of a shock and woke me up a little. I bought a new road bike in March and started increasing my time in the saddle, resulting in 2 stone being lost and feeling much fitter generally, absolutely loving my return to road cycling.

I quite often put in rides over 50 miles and have done Strava’s Gran Fondo (100k) every month since March. My longest ride this year was a local 78 mile sportive and to keep me motivated over the coming winter, I signed up for the London - Essex 100 next year (cancelled and money refunded). To replace that, I’ve just signed up for the 2025 Etapes Loch Ness and Caledonia at 66 and 85 miles.

Looking forward to contributing once again !

Welcome back. I was your direction in August whilst riding the Kirkpatrick C2C.

Good stuff.

With 2025 on the horizon you might want to have a look at CC's own Century a Month challenges (available in super-tuff Imperial and more manageable Metric flavours).

There are also the Lunacy challenges - nominate a distance (or an elevation gain) and aim for 13 of these in a calendar year (not necessarily one every month)

Cheers, I’m liking the look of the Metric flavoured centuries for next year !
