C P E Bach, Johan's brother (?). His flute concerto is brilliant.

As an organist, it's JSB every time. Mozart wrote very little for the King of Instruments and his Fantasia in F minor for mechanical organ is a beast if your hands are small. My son's French horn teacher would not allow his pupils to play pieces by Mozart in audition situations but I have had to learn a few accompaniments to his horn concertos for my pupils. They are enjoyable but I'd rather play the large-scale Bach organ works.

FF, as an oboeist, which would you prefer? Bach's Chorale Prelude 'Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland' sounds fabulous as an oboe solo.

Which Bach?

Far prefer JSB or CPEB to Mozart. I'll listen to pretty much anything by the Bach family, but the K361 Serenades are about the only bit of Mozart to which I can listen. Maybe the Requiem at a push.

Give me the Bachs any day.

Exactly the same...although the Goldberg variations played by Glenn Gould (the 50's version of course!) is totally sublime....Mozart just sounds 'sweeter' to me.

I love the Mozart operas. Have quite a few of them on VT when they were shown on TV many years back. I try never to miss them when they are on at the Lowry.

Mozart writes sublime melodies. He must have just oozed them all his life. I think the Bachs had to work a bit harder at it.
