The trouble with Ayups is that they are either on or off. There's no possibility of turning to a lower brightness mode to make your batteries last longer.
In terms of light, the Hope Vision 2 or most other recent 2-led models will give as much.

Good bit of kit. I like mine with one small exception: the battery pack. It's not particularly big but I struggle to squeeze it under my stem with all the gear/brake cables. With a 110mm stem I can just about get it in but anything less and it won't fit.
Also the rubber surrounding the wire where it attatches to the battery pack has peeled off. I've electrical taped it for now but should really contact them before the winter. Anyone have experience with their customer service?
Lights themselves are great. Nice and bright, small, bombproof (been dropped on concrete many times), and with decent battery life.

Its a lot more compact than some of the other lighting systems around particularly the ones that take up a whole bottle cage or weigh a ton.

This seems to be a known fault on some battery packs mine did the same just let them know and you should recieve a nice shinney new battery pack in the post, I did  and so have a couple of others plus I got to keep the old battery pack.

I have a cheap flashing jobby on the front and use that when I am in lit roads such as town then turn on the AY UP when I am on country lanes, in woods or just generally dark areas.

It is funny the reaction you get from car drivers as they dont seem to know what an earth is coming down the road B)

I have the Hope Vision 4. Apart from being bright I bought it because I've always experienced great customer service from Hope and, of course, they are in the UK.

They used to do a battery with variable brightness and flashing mode. Don't know if they still do.

Then again, why would you want to spend money on 'in the dark' lights then want to turn them down? Surely if you hop on to a lit road you can pull the lead and rely on your cheap backup?

I've had mine 2 weeks and they come with 2 brightness levels and flashing mode. Mind you they are bright on the low level setting, the high level is unbelievable

Great lights, only problem is i'm now on my third battery as the leads keep splitting; not sure if they've fixed this now.
If they have i don't think you'll do better for the money.

Ay-Up and Hope are good for customer service.

I went for two Hope Vision 1's. Similar price to the Ay-Up setup. I'd already had a stack of quality AA rechargeable batteries and chargers, so these made sense for me. The Ay-Ups are tiny and look excellent.

Had mine for 2 years and they have been great.

I'm looking for some "proper" front lights for my winter commute. Some of it is unlit country lanes so I need something decent.

I know people rave about AyUp's so I've just been on their Aussie website and I reckon the kit I need will come in at about £180 include shipping and duty/VAT.

For this kind of money I can get any number of good front lights in the UK (Exposure Joystick, Hope Vision 2, Light & Motion Stella etc.)

Are the AyUp's worth the money / bother?

Thanks

bc

Yes they are! Had mine for 2 years and they have been great. Will order a couple of the new batteries I think.

I appreciate all the comments, thanks.

Perhaps perversely I've decided to go with the Hope Vision 2. 480 lumens for £160 and looks very nicely made (I do think Hope make quality products). The Vision 1 looked a bit weedy and the Vision 4 overkill.

I'm probably going to be buying some AyUps myself. I've started a new thread to see if we can come up with a 'multiple' order here - please post there or PM me if you would like to order any AyUps or accessories.
