If you spin the wheels can you hear any rub, do they free spin for a long time? Hybrids I would think will be using the longer travel BB5

No rub at all, but I believe there are 2 types silver and black, mine are the black ones.

MTB BB5 designed to be used with linear pull aka V brake flat bar levers. The BB5 Road are grey/silver and designed to be used with STI style drop bar levers.

What's the difference? The length of the arm, the arc of travel of the arm or the gradient of the screw thread?

Apart from the colour, at a glance you tell me!

The difference with the BB7's is pronounced yet may not be significant:

I made the change to BB7's - they are much better. No more problems with pull on the levers, the brakes are set nice and tight. They are also much, much easier to adjust thanks to easy twist adjustment dials on both sides, unlike the BB5 which only had the dial for one side.

Would highly recommend - now to get round to giving the BB5's a quick clean so I can put them on eBay with no reserve

Quick question for you fellow disc brake users-
Having a problem at the minute with the wheel 'coming out' of the dropouts under moderate-heavy braking on the front.
Happened twice on way to work the other night, had to stop, release the QR centre the wheel and re-tighten.
Is this just the QR not being fastened tight enough?
Bike is due it's 1st service soon but am thinking of taking it back earlier and getting it checked.

Had it happen to me once, on the MTB in the mountains. I didn't do my normal M check before setting off and put it down to not having done up the QR tightly enough when getting the bike out of the car and putting the front wheel back on the day before. Brakes made strange noises and as soon as that happens I stop. Normally do up my QR's so getting them past 90 degrees hurts. Why? I once rode a rim braked Pace forked bike with no lawyer tabs in an XC race and the front wheel came off. Not pretty.

Cheers Greg, had another go at it and made sure it was really tight, quick ride outside and all seems well, not confident about the commute tonight so will use other bike and test it properly tomorrow
